Model 30 Swift Boxes
Although it is preferable to install integral nest boxes, because they are more secure and thermally stable, there are occasions where this is not an option and so external nest boxes are appropriate.
External nest boxes are often made of wood, and if exposed to the weather are prone to deteriorate. Swifts are long-lived birds, so their nest place needs to last at least the lifetime of the bird, and for many generations. External boxes are readily accepted by Swifts
The Model 30 is a traditional favourite. It can be made of a plywood combination or wholly of uPVC.
Its rigid, lightweight nature and durable waterproof properties make uPVC ideal for making nest boxes.
Unlike PVC, uPVC contains no plasticizers, nor environmentally harmful chemicals such as phthalates and BPA, and it is recyclable.
We offer a range of options in either complete uPVC or a durable combination with treated plywood. All of our products are handmade in the UK and so we can offer variations according to your needs. Please ask us if you have any special requirements.

The AfS Model 30 collection
A traditional wall-mounted nest box design, the AfS Model 30 comes in either white uPVC, or a combination of treated plywood and uPVC and can also be painted to blend in with any wall if required.
With a nest form inside, this box protects from predators and weather with it’s sloping roof design and is long lasting.
Model 30’s can also be produced to order with either 2, 3, 4 or 5 chambers (3 week lead time). Prices, weights and dimensions can be seen below. This is a sleek and easy way to provide a larger number of nest sites.
● Nesting chamber dimensions (1 chamber): 398cms2 floor area, height of 12cms
● Entrances are standard 28mm (32mm offered for larger species)

The AfS Gable End Box
This is a bespoke box individually created with the angles to match your gable end perfectly.
Made with either 3, 6 or 10 nesting chambers, it can be finished in a range of wood stains or colours of your choice.
Each entrance hole is a standard 28mm and is protected from predators and weather by an overhang and with a metal plate to prevent damage from squirrels or other birds.
The nesting chambers are secure and each has one of our moulded nest forms. The dimensions vary between designs, but each one has ample space for breeding swifts.
These are made to order and there is usually a 3-week lead time.
